Concerning the Small Things

So, let’s just get right to it? I’m hoping your day has been thoroughly blessed already, but in the event there’s some areas in life where you just feel duped, let me share my day with you in hopes that it brings you even the slightest smile…

I’ll try to start at present and backtrack, but the order doesn’t even matter so much. I’m currently on my second cup of coffee and I’m extremely glad I decided to go make it when I did. It worked out that I noticed the side door of the refrigerator (the one for the freezer) was totally not closed. Not sure how long it’s been like that, but I tell you the truth that I closed it several times, thinking it was sealed. I’ve long since grown out of the habit of kicking inanimate objects. It causes them no pain whatsoever, so I had to accept the fact that it was wasted energy. So what did I do? I opened the fridge door, moved the pizza box to another position, then ensured the door was completely sealed this time.

I made a trip to the commissary this morning. For those of you who may not readily know what that is, it’s really just a military term used to reference the grocery store. I have one cousin, in particular, that feels I aim to drive her insane with my use of terminology, LOL. Believe me when I say I don’t say anything on purpose to irritate her, but it is funny when it happens. Anyway, I digress. Out of the ten thousand brands of dumplings they had in stock, not one of them was vegetarian-friendly. You heard me, NOT ONE! I can’t tell you how disappointing that’s going to be for my vegetarian child when she comes home and gets that update. They did have tons of brussel sprouts, though, and, yes, I got’em!

The drive home was pleasant, even after the “low tire pressure” light came on. Of course I have a portable device. Thanks for asking and, yes, I had all intentions on using it once I put the groceries up. Unfortunately, the tire decided to go totally flat by the time I backed into the garage. Yes, I called AAA. You guys are so caring and, yes, AAA’s called and texted me several times now to ensure I know that they are seriously backed up and won’t be in my area for some time. Meanwhile, I have dinner on the stove.

Unfortunately, clothing today has seriously shrunk by a good two or three inches, so when you have daughters who have long, sleek legs, most pairs of shorts/skorts are going to make them look naked from the buttocks down. I don’t succumb to this societal norm when it comes to school attire, so, that outfit did not leave my premises today. I’m sure she’s forgiven me by now. If not, may the Lord bless me to season those brussel sprouts so she knows they were made with extra love today, LOL.

There’s so much more that’s happened today, but here’s the meat and potatoes: Psalm 145:5. Regardless of how my day’s been and will be, I’m reminded of the wonderful God who gave me life. None of the stuff I’ve experienced today is life-threatening. None of it entails anything that can’t be taken care of, regardless of the time. So rather than wallow in it, I share it with you and find the humor in it. There are so many other pressing things in life, so even though God hears our prayers concerning the small things, we don’t have to wallow in our sorrow there. James 1:12 reveals to us the prize for when we meet challenges head-on, so read these verses today and look forward to them.
