Movie Critics and Windows of Opportunity

As this morning’s title came into mind, I thought several things to myself. I thought about how long it seemed and how I didn’t really want to use it, but I mainly thought about how fitting it is for me in this moment.

I had the pleasure of watching a pretty decent movie with one of my daughters last night. I say ‘pretty decent’ because nowadays it’s really hard to find anything with a good story line that doesn’t involve almost every sin known to man, given to you in a healthy serving. But, I digress.

As I woke this morning, I had to face how we so often miss windows of opportunity. Sure, people think about it as it pertains to relationships, job offers, even buying a house or a car. It’s human to navigate toward those things that are just material because it makes it easier to not take ownership of our behavior. But how often do we miss windows of opportunity that God has set before us to minister to those in need? Please don’t stop at the homeless. I submit to you there are 10:1 emotionally in need than there are in need due to being homeless or just on the street.

I criticized so much of the main character’s behavior in the movie, but the fact of the matter is that her life and the others around her were scripted. Movies tend to do that – give us a way to see the wrong in others that we do not want to see in ourselves. I can tell you wholeheartedly that I thank God for being able to wake up today and repent for having missed my window of opportunity to tell someone about the love of Jesus. I share this with you so you don’t walk around today and days to come living life as just a movie critic. Allow the Lord to use you and when he sets an opportunity before you to minister, do so in a way that does not gratify your flesh, but in a way that gives glory to the one who makes all things new.
