When To Put It Back

Today, today, today! I don’t broadcast the fact that I have not one, but two businesses. Most days, it’s because God doesn’t lead me to share it, but on occasion, it’s from a place of feeling discredited. The position I find myself in with these businesses (and other roads that God has me on) don’t bring in huge sums of money, if any at all. After all, who gives street cred to a business owner who only shells out money, right? Yet I persevere, knowing that what I do or don’t do should come from a place of listening to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

So, while shopping today, I saw a box of coffee pods that caught my eye! They were of different flavors, both of which I love. One was butter pecan and the other banana nut bread. Each sold for around $10/box, with 12 pods in each. Mind you, these were not on my list and certainly had nothing to do with the mission the Lord had me on. But, they were pleasing to the eye and I desired to have them, or at least just one. I felt I deserved to get at least one, no reason, just deserved it. After I placed a box in my cart, the small, sweet voice of the Holy Spirit advised me to put them back. While I could afford to get them, I didn’t need to, not now. In my mind, I really didn’t want to put them back, but eventually I did. It wasn’t about the coffee for me, but being obedient to the small, sweet voice of the Holy Spirit.

You see, God knows that if He can get us to listen to the small things, we’ll respond more when He speaks to us about the big things. He doesn’t have to scream at us and we shouldn’t want or need Him to. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing the Word of Jesus. John 10:27 tells us that, as His sheep, we hear God’s voice and know to follow it. And John 8:47 tells us that the reason we do not hear His voice is that we are not of God. But thank God we don’t have to stay that way!!!

When you’re at a crossroad, listen to hear the voice of God. It takes faith to respond to it and time spent in the Word to become familiar with it. Only then can you know when to put it back or get it, when to slow down or speed up, and when to stay put or move on. Be blessed on today, assured that God is speaking at all times. We just need to be ready to listen.
