Once you’ve “made up your mind” about a thing, do you just do it, or do you leave room for you to change your mind? How often have you left room for others to change your mind and not even recognized it? Believe it or not, 9 times out of 10, we’ve all experienced this struggle. It is a wonderful thing to know that we don’t actually have to, though.
If you’ve ever attended a church sermon or spoken with someone who professes to love the Lord, Jesus Christ, it’s possible they’ve shared Proverbs 3:5-6 with you. It says that we are to trust in the Lord with all of our heart. We are not to lean on (follow through with) our understanding of what we should do (or not do). And, lastly, that we are to acknowledge God so that He will direct our paths. Sounds pretty simple, right? If I’m being honest, many people don’t respond to what’s said in these verses simply because they’ve heard them repeated so much. Moreover, they don’t see the concept being put into practice during the daily life of the ones who took time to share it with them. But that’s the beauty of what comes from reading the Word of God. There’s plenty more scriptures to support this plight and all you have to do is begin, or continue, reading on your own.
Like Proverbs 1:7, which says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Of course, no one wants to feel like a fool, but it often ends up that way once we’ve made a decision and acted it out according to our own wisdom. But had we reverenced the Lord, the knowledge needed for the situation would begin there. I’m only going to give you that one, so I hope you’re encouraged to search the scriptures for more on your own!
And that’s really what it boils down to: should I do this thing or not, according to the will of God? And how will I know what the will of God: through prayer, fasting, reading the Word of God, and worship. That recipe, my friend, comes right in time for Thanksgiving, LOL, and is better than anything you’ll ever partake of while here on this Earth.
